Hey Girls unveil Social Impact Report 2018 and give thanks to supporters to mark their first anniversary.

 Big Issue Invest funded social enterprise, Hey Girls has launched their Social Impact Report 2018, revealing that they have donated in excess of 2.3 million pads and tampons to people across the UK in under a year.

The report was launched as Celia Hodson, Founder of Hey Girls, gathered partners, supporters, investors, government and customers together to offer a collective ‘Thank You’ for their support in Edinburgh.

Firstport was proud to be in attendance and to have provided with support and funding through Firstport's Start It and Build It Awards last year, to help get Hey Girls up and running and has since, grown into a sustainable scalable social enterprise.

Hey Girls was launched in January 2018, selling menstrual products online using a Buy One Give One model – meaning that for every box purchased, a box is given away to a girl or woman in need in the UK. In 12 months, the organisation was recognised as one of Scotland’s start-up innovators and social enterprise game-changer.

Since then, they have supported over 200 donation partners in communities across the UK and provided education resources to over 3,000 school kids.

Hey Girls has also supplied menstrual products to over 1,400 schools in 12 Local Authorities across Scotland and supplied menstrual products to nine universities and colleges across the UK.

At the event, where the report was launched, more than 50 people gathered at Brodies in Edinburgh to highlight how they had each contributed to Hey Girls.  

In August 2018, Hey Girls launched their products in 228 ASDA and 80 Waitrose stores across the UK, following a £100,000 investment from Big Issue Invest’s Power Up programme enabling the social enterprise to upscale. The company is also a major provider in the Scottish Government’s initiative to provide free sanitary products all pupils and students nationwide.

Celia Hodson, who set Hey Girls up with her two daughters said:

I am so very proud to be here today, to launch our first Social Impact Report and celebrate with our loyal supporters who have backed us all the way. What a massive first 12 months! I guess everyone has heard the saying that it takes a village to raise a child, well this gathering highlights that it take a huge number of willing people and their gifted expertise to launch and grow a social enterprise.

Thanks go to our customers, without their sales and their support, we wouldn’t be able to donate products to women and girls in need - and this is really what we are all about.

I’d also like to thank the team and everyone who has been part of the Hey Girls story for getting us this far, with very special thanks to Big Issue Invest in particular for their ongoing support – we wouldn’t have been able to upscale to meet demand without their backing.
