Music Broth established Scotland’s first ever Musical Instrument and Equipment Library for the Community launched in Govanhill in Sept 2018. With over 400+ musical items in our community library, and additional services such as delivery and collection, and maintenance and repair, they are on the road to creating musical opportunities for all.
This Christmas They are running a ‘Gift Of Music’ campaign to ask the fantastic people of Glasgow and wider Scottish community to give the gift of music this Christmas! You can treat yourself, a friend, or pay-it-forward for a community member to have a music library membership, place in a workshop, or restore a library instrument. There are wee treats for all sponsors such as custom tote bags, plectrums and handmade Christmas cards to say thank you. All proceeds raised go towards our hardship fund to make music more accessible to all.
For a good night out for good causes, they are also running ‘Unsilent Night’ on Weds 12th Dec 8-late at Drygate Brewery in Glasgow. This a joint fundraiser with amazing homegrown Glasgow organisation Refuweegee raising valuable funds to support music access for refugees, asylum seekers and the wider Glasgow community whilst having a great night with live music performances by acclaimed local musicians including Becci Wallace, Jackal Trades and John McMustard from Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5. It’s bound to be a pre-Christmas cracker!
Felix Slavin and Jen O’Brien Co-Founders of Music Broth said: “We’ve already had an amazing response from the people of Glasgow and wider Scotland in donating their unused or unwanted musical equipment into our library. We need valuable funds to restore and repair items to be reused back into the community and for our Hardship Fund to help members who can’t afford to access the library. Our ‘Gift Of Music’ campaign and ‘Unsilent Night’ gig are opportunities to do something good and local this Christmas, with some wee treats and the added feelgood factor of course.”
They welcome anyone to come and get involved with them at Music Broth. You can join their library, donate musical instruments or equipment or volunteer time. Spread the word about Music Broth and help them further develop Scotland’s very first library of musical instruments and equipment in Glasgow to become the loudest library in Scotland! #PeopleMakeGlasgow
