Celebrating the best of Scottish social enterprise

June 7, 2017

In November 2016, Homes for Good CIC was named Social Enterprise of the Year Scotland, tying off a fantastic few years for the social enterprise.

Susan Aktemel came up with the idea of setting up Scotland's first social enterprise letting agency as a result of her own personal experience as a landlord.

It’s really simple. We supply a high-quality service, matching properties with the right tenant, creating happy homes for tenants and sound investments for landlords. We also specialise in supporting vulnerable and young people to access safe, secure homes they can flourish in.

Homes for Good first started trading in March 2013 from Susan’s house. They now employ around fifteen staff, 80% of whom were previously unemployed prior to joining the team. They manage around 300 homes for over 80 landlords around Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

In January 2017, Homes for Good expanded into new premises in the Bridgeton Community, opened by Minister for Local Government and Housing, Kevin Stewart MSP.

Susan said:

Our focus this year is to grow our landlord portfolio around Bridgeton, Dennistoun and The Merchant City, as well as building up activities in our Tenants Support Hub, which is a first in the country.

Their success and impact was recognised at last year’s Social Enterprise Awards Scotland, winning Social Enterprise of the Year.
