Sabina Sekowska

Firstport is working with local groups across Edinburgh to find and support people who have a good idea that could benefit their local community.

One of our partners is Community Alliance Trust, a development trust set up in 2011 to develop community assets and new social enterprise initiatives in the Craigmillar area and improve the quality of life of residents.

Sabina Sekowska was awarded £500 to develop her idea, organising events for children that promote healthy eating. At the event Sabina shares real life experience and nutritional knowledge through play.

The purpose of the event is to show parents some easy ways to improve their children’s diets in a fun and relaxed environment – with games and a food art workshop.

Sabina said: “We all know about the importance of eating more fruit and vegetables, but it's difficult for parents to meet the 5-a-day target. I am a Nutritionist but also a busy mum of three and I know that the struggle is real. I applied for the programme because I want to share my ideas for less stressful family mealtimes with the wider community.”

As part of the programme, Sabina has enjoyed meeting new people and sharing her passion with others.

“I set up a fun filled event that I can now repeat and make it better. It took a lot of organising but it was worth it. Around 50 people attended the event and I got some great feedback. My plan is to organise more similar events and to improve them based on the feedback. I have lots of new ideas and would like to hold events on a more regular basis.”
