Inspired by Autism

Duncan MacGillivray is developing his social enterprise in Dunoon as part of the Vital Spark programme.

Duncan provides support services for families living with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) including a carers support group as well as specialised training for parents, carers and professionals. Inspired by Autism has recently been granted charitable status and can provide small grants to families and autistic people.

Being a parent living with ASC, Duncan is passionate about providing an active support network in the community. Using his experience in the care sector, Duncan will also provide advocacy, support and representation for families at care reviews, school meetings and benefits tribunals. He also contributes to policy development through contributing to the Autism Strategy, Autism Network Scotland and his local Health and Care Social Care Partnership.

I found myself in a situation where I felt I had professional and personal knowledge to pass on to people. I've never been in doubt that the service that I'm providing was needed, but it was about setting up a structure that was sustainable.

Duncan has won a Rural Parliament award and delivers guest university lectures. He recently attended this year's Royal Garden Party in July in recognition of his autism work.
