Everything Baby

Katy Kitchingham created Everything Baby to provide a one stop shop for pre-loved baby goods, parenting support and information.

Getting involved with Firstport really helped me to ensure that our trading activities got off to a flying start. I received practical and knowledgeable help from the business advisor just at the right stage in the business’s development.

Opened in June 2014, Everything Baby provides a one stop shop for pre-loved baby goods, parenting support and information. The business addresses several themes including waste reduction, family support and volunteering in the Highlands.

Everything Baby was started by Katy Kitchingham to help families being affected by the challenges presented by the recession, austerity and increased cost of living. Katy identified a lack of pre-loved goods in Inverness charity shops, as well as the challenges of negotiating a charity shop or car boot sale with a buggy.

Realising that this was a particular barrier to some households, Katy envisaged a shop with a welcoming, relaxed, atmosphere that sold affordable, pre-loved baby goods. She also wanted to offer additional services like advice, activities, and volunteering opportunities to young families in the Highlands.

Everything Baby originally used Firstport’s Ditto programme, giving Katy access to handbook including established business model and funding. Katy later successfully applied for a Build It award, allowing her to dedicate more time to developing the business.
