Audrey Mutongy used a Ditto tried and tested model to help set up a new Befriending service in West Dunbartonshire

I'd always wanted to start a business that is meaningful to both me and to my clients. Firstport made that dream a reality for me. The funds and support I receive will help me help others and become the person I'd always wanted to be in my community. I'm so grateful!

Business and funding support from Firstport will enable aspiring social entrepreneur Audrey Mutongi to launch a brand new befriending service in the West Dunbartonshire area.

The social enterprise be-Friend will focus on improving older people’s health and wellbeing through a unique one-to-one service.  Audrey plans to ensure the provision will be flexible to adapt to individual patient needs, while keeping the comforts of home. The service aims to give patients choice and control over their care, giving them a greater level of independence and confidence as a result. Be-Friend plans to work in partnership with health care organisations to complement existing structures and to improve service delivery.

As part of Firstport’s Ditto programme Audrey will receive resources, expert advice and £5000 to ensure her start up journey is a well planned and confident one.  There are around 20,000 people aged 60 and over in West Dunbartonshire. The hope is to grow the business to reach as many of these people as possible, reducing the number of elderly hospital admissions and lowering readmission rates.
